HUMAN. A film by Yann Arthus-Bertrand

We have been working on Inigo Scout for over two years now.  At least, that’s when the genesis of the idea for an ‘art meets blankets meets helping kids’ project came about – when Inigo and Scout were born and spent time in hospital – with that cardboard box of locally knitted blankets in the corner…

A friend introduced me to Carol Cone the other day.  He described her as ‘The Godmother of Social Enterprise’ in the States.  I told Carol of our plans for Inigo Scout. To my relief and excitement she loved the idea of a luxury product with a real purpose.

Carol suggested we keep a journal as Inigo Scout approaches launch, goes live and hopefully grows.  To be honest I can’t believe I didn’t think of this myself, seeing as I spend so much time reading other peoples’ blogs for inspiration!

We have met so many people from around the world on this journey already, from a Vietnamese artist to an art-packing expert in South London to a canvas bag specialist in Brooklyn, NYC.  The encouraging thing is that Inigo Scout seems to resonate quickly and easily with people…and move them to help.

We hope the idea continues to work in this way.  There is nothing more exciting than when an idea comes from nowhere, makes something new happen…and makes people react, respond, contribute.  It’s a little early to be talking about a movement. But, maybe one day. It’s a worthwhile aspiration.

So, this is the first post of many as Inigo Scout develops.  It happens to come on the day of the launch of Yann Arthus-Bertrand’s fabulous, inspiring and important new film, ‘HUMAN’.  Another project where art and purpose come together.

Good luck Yann.  And, good luck Inigo Scout.

I agree that there is a movement, or movements to come. Actually, I feel they are already being formed, even though we may not be aware of them yet. On a personal level, I have been looking at my art and trying to see it in a new way. How can I bring more purpose to it and also in how I put it out into the world. It’s a very exciting place to be as my thinking is shifting, as well as my art. Thank you for what you are doing. You are an inspiration to me.
